Wimbledon Introduces Video Challenge Technology in 2025.

The Championships court with video review technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review systems.

Replay technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.

Competitors will gain the option to challenge specific rulings made by the official, echoing the protocol currently in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.

This innovation will be operational on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles contests.

This step comes just a season following the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line judges.

Reviewable Decisions

Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the official to review specific decisions, such as:

  • If a ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
  • Potential interference end of a point.

Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a competitor can request.

Case in Point

A recent incident took place in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.

Draper conceded it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "played the rules quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and ruled the player was guilty of hindrance, awarding the rally to his opponent.

Growing Trend

Video reviews aren't exclusive to major tournaments. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews implemented at every one of its tournaments.

Additional Innovations

A further innovation at The Championships 2025 will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.

This addresses instances where fans have sometimes been uncertain whether a shot was out or in.

In other news, with exactly 100 days to go until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
