Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the party access places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
